Thought for the day.

We are, each of us, the centre of our own universe. Therefore, we can never be, by definition, the centre of anyone else's.

  1. You assert that every person is in the centre of their universe as if it were a self-evident truth. Extremely shy people, or those with inferiority complex may live in the edge of their respective universes.

But let's assume your postulate is right. In that case, if all universes are concentric, which is rather plausible, then we are all inhabiting each other's centre of the universe.

Furthermore, we can explore the possibility of having universes with more than one centre etc.

  2. I rather intended my "centre of one's own universe" weltanschauung to be interpreted in the solipsistic sense, rather than the geometric sense. In my framework, one's personal universe is, by definition, entirely separate from everyone else's. Not only can one's personal universe and someone else's not be concentric - they cannot even overlap.

  3. Do you know why the first International Solipsist Convention was cancelled at the last minute?

    No one showed up!

  4. Ho ho! I hadn't heard that before - which I guess puts a nail in the coffin of solipsism as a philosophy.
